As you may or may not know, Austin, Texas’ venerable South By Southwest Festival, whose music portion more or less kicked off yesterday, isn’t typically a place where much happens in the way of electronic dance music. Often referred to in industry circles as “indie-rock spring break,” SXSW offers a whole lot more in the way of screechy guitars and southern-style BBQ cuisine than it does beats and blips of the techno and house variety.
But that’s slowly beginning to change as more and more American ears prick up to the sounds of boombastic bass, and so to usher in that new era, D&B legend Photek has given us a playlist of tunes you may have heard when he hit the decks last night at the festival with Apparat. Old classics and new remixes from Photek himself appear in the chart, alongside some serious heat from Ron Trent, Sepalcure, and many more. So check it all out over at Beatport!
