Tim Hecker wins Juno Award for Best Electronic Album

By Ken Taylor

The Juno Awards aren’t some trophy presentation for having the hottest Roland synth—nay, they’re more or less Canada’s equivalent to the Grammys. Nonetheless, Canadian noisemaker Tim Hecker took one home over the weekend for his abrasively gorgeous ambient album Ravedeath, 1972, beating out the likes of Junior Boys, Austra, Azari & III, and Arthur Oskan for the title of Electronic Album of the Year.

Hecker’s Kranky-released sixth album won plaudits all throughout 2011, and ended up on many a year-end best-of list.
