My personal highlight over the weekend of Detroit’s Movement Festival didn’t actually happen at Movement at all. It actually took place (waaay) down the street at Corktown venue The Works, where Omar S busted out his first-ever live PA, an almost-all-hardware affair that featured Aaron “FIT” Siegel playing bass and vocalist L’Renee crooning atop Alex “Omar S” Smith’s icy machine-funk grooves. As is the case with Detroit’s techno legacy, history is usually made in Motown with a relatively small number of people in the room, and for the few who made it to The Works that night, this was an historical event indeed.
So in honor of that now-legendary event, it’s with great pleasure that I introduce today’s Track Of The Day, which comes from Omar S’ exclusive-to-Beatport S.E.X Remixes EP, and again features L’Renee on the mic. Without a doubt, “S.E.X” could be a much dirtier tune—all you gotta do is imagine DJ Assault getting his mitts on this one—but in the hands of Omar S, it’s rendered a groovy, sultry chiller. There’s nothing over-the-top about this paean to doin’ it, and remixers Conant Gardens Posse give it just the right amount of ghetto click to make it pure dancefloor magic. Grab it here on Beatport and get wild this weekend.
