Blood Diamonds, Grimes – Phone Sex [4AD]

Vancouver-based Blood Diamonds (aka Mike Tucker) just dropped his tropi-pop anthem “Phone Sex” via 4AD. With Grimes on vocal duties and a warm, steeldrum-led groove, this is sure to be the pop-crossover anthem of the summer. There’s even a main-room take by chiptune champ Unicorn Kid and a heavy drag rework by Jensen Sportag included on the release. Primo!

V/A – Dubstep Allstars Vol. 9 – Mixed By Silkie And Quest [Tempa]

It’s nothing new to say that dubstep is a much different beast today than it was 10 years ago, but it’s—in a weird way—really refreshing when guys like Silkie and Quest actually look back to the pre-wobble old school and bring forth some spacy, often sultry monsters from the likes of Swindle, L Wiz, and their own hard drives as well. Ain’t no brostep here—just the finest stuff the genre’s ever offered up.

LV – Get A Grip EP [Hyperdub]

Mike Huckaby – The Tresor EP [Tresor]

Theo Parrish – Synthetic Flemm [Sound Signature]

TNGHT – Buggin’ [Warp Records x LuckyMe]

Okay, maybe this trap phenomenon that’s sweeping through everything lately is a little ridiculous. It has producers from electro-house, dubstep, breaks, funky, and just about every form of bass music giving it go. I have to admit, though… I’m diggin’ it. TNGHT is the combo of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, and their 808-rumble-and-furious-hi-hat combo is the right fit for both these guys. Huge track!

Further Listening:

Indigo – Symbol #7.1 [Auxiliary]

RDG – 2100 [New World Audio]

Unsub – Sunstones (Dubstep Mix) [STFU Records]

John Donaghy

Merchandising Manager / Berlin

Mr. G – State Of Flux [Rekids]

This week’s On Rotation pick goes to Colin McBean (aka Mr. G), the tech-house legend with more than two decades of crafting his signature style, which he says is all about the bassline. “G’s Riddem” is a straight-up groover from his new 11-track long-player, State Of Flux, which just came out on Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint. Check it!

Further Listening:

Glimpse, Martin Dawson & Alex Jones – Fat Controller EP [Hypercolour]

Argy & Alex Picone – Eternal Moment [Memento]

Alexander B – Devotion [Pink Pervs]

Christine Kakaire

Merchandising Manager / Berlin

D’Marc Cantu – A New World [M>O>S (Delsin)]

Michigan native D’Marc Cantu continues his fruitful relationship with the Dutch collective Delsin, who remain as committed as ever to the deeper, more introspective strains of music that are rooted in the history of the Motor City. A New World is an engrossing listen, a record as much for the head as the feet, and it stands up against the label’s recent run of truly impressive albums by Claro Intelecto and Delta Funktionen.

813 – Blend EP [92 Points]

Seb Dhajje – Leeknath / Calista Nantes [Anjunadeep]

Joel Alter, Henik Jonsson – For You [Kontra Musik]
