With the whole “trap” fad reaching its saturation point, I decided it was a good time to sit down and familiarize myself with the “new dubstep” in the good ol’ US of A. After a few hours of perusing tracks from some of the top players in the scene, I came across this recent remix from Empt of Long Arms “When Children Sleep,” and goodness gracious me, if the 909 32nd hi-hats start rolling more in this direction, I may become the #1 trap fan in this office.

Missing the screech and wub of his trap-temporaries, Empt took Long Arms’ original soulful instrumental hip-hop bomb and upped the swag factor by a few megatons. It may not be a Baauer banger, but this is certainly a step in the right direction for dance music’s least understood crossover genre.
