A fast-rising Damian Lazarus protege, Subb-an has become a deep-house staple, having releases on labels like Cocoon, Spectral Sound, Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels, and now Visionquest. In fact, when Lazarus recently announced that he would embark on a 10-year anniversary Crosstown Rebels tour, entitled Rebel Rave, the 24-year-old Berliner known to friends as Ashique Subhan was made an integral part it.
To coincide with the tour, Subb-an will release the third installment of the Rebel Rave series on March 19, right after he puts out his first EP on Visionquest, Rain, on March 11. Although the next few months are sure to be busy ones for him, he took a moment to tell us about what tracks he feels light up a dancefloor.
As soon as I got this as a demo, I loved it, and that was a year ago. A year later and I still love it. Goes off every time—pure weekend bomb.
When me and Tom made this, I couldn’t wait to play it. I play the record in every set. The reaction always kicks off on the final break. People seem to like it a lot.
This track freaks me out so much; such a jam. I don’t play this every weekend, but if I’m in an environment where I can drop it, then I always do. It always has a good energy and groove, so the floor moves with it.
Old track, but it always delivers.
The original to this record is so amazing that when me and Seth had the chance to rework it, we were super-excited. We pretty much kept the same structure but just extended it and made it more DJ-friendly. The track is amazing as a last record in the sunshine.
