What’s old is new again in house music. Daft Punk has dominated headlines recently thanks to collaborations with legends Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers, the latter of whom is also working with Avicii. And now Miami-based Cedric Gervais is paying homage to the sounds that paved the way for musicians today, reinterpreting Howard Jones’ 1985 hit “Things Can Only Get Better” for maximum modern-dancefloor impact.

Fresh off his remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness,” Gervais serves up yet another summer hit with this new release, out now on Spinnin Records. “Things Can Only Get Better” finds Gervais reworking Jones’ uplifting message into a festival anthem with euphoric synths and a feel-good vibe. Sometimes a song can capture the essence of a time and place, taking you to a specific moment when you hear it. “Things Can Only Get Better” is one of those tracks. Listening to Howard Jones’ new vocal paired with the emotional piano chords, you can almost see the festival lights and dancing revelers—the track sets the tone for a memorable night.
