Every two months or so, Francis Harris’ Scissor & Thread imprint brings us another release that resets “the bar” for quality dance music. Making his return to the NY-based label showing the world how to do things right, Black Light Smoke makes his sophomore solo appearance with the Rough Cuts EP. Bathed in the same druggy, lo-fi goodness as his other late-night groovers, the EP’s lead-off track, “That’s My Yes,” will easily set after-hours floors to flame.
The warm analog wonk and slinky percussion will help “That’s My Yes” find a quick home in any seasoned DJ’s collection. Far far from the festival sound you’ve heard all summer long, Black Light Smoke has once again done the underground a solid and given it—or us—something to get lost in.
