We Know the Feeling, our ongoing series that highlights Beatport’s own creative crop of gifted individuals, just keeps rolling along. This time out, we cast the spotlight on mild-mannered content operations coordinator Manny Gutierrez, 41, who plays our Beatport Live stream this Friday, November 22, at 3 PM MST/9 PM GMT. Over the past 19 years, he’s been mixing it up around Denver’s late-night districts under his pseudonym, DJ Love.
“Sometimes I think I came out of the womb clutching records,” Gutierrez affirms. “But the switch flipped inside my brain around ’92 going to underground parties here in Denver. Actually, one of the local DJs I used to follow was one of Beatport’s founders, Jonas Tempel. What I love most is the ability to connect and communicate with a group of people just by playing music. The opportunity to just get a crowd right in the palm of your hands and take them someplace wonderful…it’s intoxicating.”
For his upcoming live stream set on Beatport, he’s planning to dig deep and drop some serious vinyl-only garage classics as well as some cratedigging delights: “I used to champion a lot of UK garage back around the late ’90s to early ’00s, so I’m planning on doing an all-vinyl throwback set of UK garage and 2-step, and possibly digging out some old speed garage and classic US garage as well. I definitely like to keep a few surprises up my sleeves.”
Catch DJ Love this Friday on Beatport Live.
