Beatport Live welcomes the new year this Friday, January 4th, with Reid Speed and TBMA from our Denver outpost.

Gaining skills and knowledge from working in record shops in the New York underground scene, Reid Speed has been impressing dancefloors for over a decade now with her blend of noisy, electro-tinged bass bangers. One of the first artists in the US to play 2-step and garage, she’s had a real head start on the dubstep scene. Ms. Speed finds her musical home on the Play Me and Play Me Too labels, where she crafts tunes that fit perfectly into her sets.

By Sean Lewis

Every once in a while, a track will stop you mid-conversation to ask, “What is this?” More than likely it’s a tune that doesn’t fit into any particular box, or is part of some new movement you haven’t been made aware of. Elbowstrike’s catalog covers a lot of this territory. His tempos and rhythms don’t adhere to any established style, although there are clear influences from drum and bass’ past. Tracks like “Murderation” or “Soundboy Killa” lend the same dark ambiance as ominous D&B productions, but move at a different pace and open up a new avenue of possibilities.
