For some reason, massive swaths of the electronic music faithful in the good ol’ US of A haven’t caught on to the massive majesty and true sonic splendor of the “beat” scene (if that’s even what it’s called these days). Call it chill-out, call it electronica—whatever it is, the music coming from Denmark’s Sekuoia (aka Patrick Madsen) is some of the most beautifully and technically produced stuff out there, and we’re hoping for lots more from him in 2013. So get on board, red, white and blue—this will (and should already) be huge.
Sum up 2012 in three words.
Love, groundbreaking, cyberspace.
There’s been a lot written about you lately… tell us one thing about yourself that the press has missed.
I love to freestyle, and I’ve been working a bit on rapping, and making some tracks. But the thing is I also suck at rapping. So I think it’s better I keep it to myself.
Have a favorite track from last year?
Yeah. Jai Paul is one anonymous guy—you never know anything about his releases, but when he drops something, it’s gold. “Jasmine” has to be my track of 2012.
Besides you, who else should we keep an eye on this year?
You should keep an eye on the Danish girl MØ. Maybe you’ve heard of her, ’cause she is getting quite some hype. I produced a bit for her, and the other producers (Ronni Vindahl, ELOQ) are doing a brilliant job producing some really cool tracks with her.
What’s next for you, release-wise and what should we look forward to in the future?
At the moment I’m doing some remixes, and slowly starting on some new material. I wanna sing more, and have some more vocalists featuring, and maybe it will turn out to be an album, but I’m not quite sure yet. I’m basically making a bunch of demos and trying some new stuff out. Hopefully, it will result in something good, sometime in 2013.
