DJ TechTools’ ever-knowledgeable Ean Golden has put together a quick video to demonstrate how, with a little bit of micro-mapping, DJs can find, create, move, and layer loops on the fly in their sets.

Inspired by live loop masters like Richie Hawtin, Golden demonstrates how he’s been able to program his software and controllers to search for tasty loops in songs with just the turn of a knob. The DJ gear expert gives a brief tutorial below using Traktor and a pair of Native Instruments Kontrol X1 MK1s, but the building blocks behind his set-up are transferable to any controller and software that supports MIDI mapping. The man’s “quick and dirty” run-through can be watched in full below, and more detail on how to implement this style of MIDI mapping can be read over on DJ TechTools here.
