Before a recent set in San Francisco, techno mainstay Ali Shirazinia (aka Dubfire) took a few minutes—in video form—to explain the gear, audio, and philosophies that fuel his renowned DJ sets.

Speaking with Ean Golden of DJ TechTools, the veteran DJ/producer (and former Deep Dish member) discusses balancing track selection with technical ability before demonstrating how he uses Traktor and a handful of controllers (including Ableton’s Push) to control and create loops live during his sets. The 12-minute video proves to be tremendously informative and should be considered essential viewing for anyone eager to learn more about incorporating technology into their DJ sets.
