Last month’s Paul van Dyk remix contest saw over 500 aspiring producers remix PvD and Giuseppe Ottaviani’s single ‘Far Away’, with the top 15 remixes as voted for by the public having been sent to Paul.
A further 20 remixes were chosen by Beatport, and Paul van Dyk made the final decision as to which remix would make it onto his label Vandit Digital.
A winner and two runners-up have been chosen, and all three will be released on Vandit Digital shortly.
Winner: Mateo Murphy Remix
“I’m totally ecstatic to win this competition,” said Mateo Murphy, who’s been producing electronic music for over 10 years.
Mateo Murphy’s remix is a driving progressive trance remix, and Paul has already played the remix on his radio show.
“I’ve released music in the past but decided to take a break from it, but this will bring me back into the spotlight and encourage me to get back into the studio.”
Mateo Murphy has released music on record labels such as Underwater, Thinner and Turbo, and he’s also worked with Tiga.
As well as having his remix released on Vandit, Mateo Murphy also walks away with a Pacemaker (portable DJ mix system), $100 in Beatport credit and a copy of Ableton Suite (including Ableton Live 7, Sampler, Operator, Electric, Analog, Tension, Drum Machines, Essential Instrument Collection 2 and Session Drums).
2nd place: Reminder Remix
Michael Luechinger aka Reminder turned out an accomplished progressive trance remix that impressed Paul.
“This is great news, I never ever thought I would get Top 3, I’m really really happy!” said Reminder, who’s been producing for about six years.
Under his Reminder alias, Michael has had one record released, but next month Reminder will have a track out on Afterglow Records from Berlin.
He was awarded 2nd place and will have his remix released on Vandit Digital.
Reminder will also receive a copy of Ableton Live 7 and some Beatport goodies.
3rd place: Xtigma Remix
“I’m a bedroom DJ and I’ve never released a track,” said Chris Bolton aka Xtigma, who came third in our Paul van Dyk remix contest.
“I’m a big fan of Paul van Dyk and have been into electronic music for about 12 years, but only started producing for fun five years ago.
“I’m really pleased to be a runner-up and this will definitely encourage me to start taking music production more seriously.”
Xtigma will have his remix released on Vandit, and he will receive a copy of Ableton Live 7 LE, plus some Beatport swag.
