A departing Dan Cole big-ups Beatport’s own Little Mike in today’s On Rotation, which compiles our expert team of merchandisers’ and editors’ favorite picks of the week.

For my final On Rotation pick as an active Beatport employee, I wanted to bring to your attention the legend that is Little Mike (aka Mike Chapman). Very few people realize that at the heart of Beatport’s marketing department lies an internationally renowned DJ who led the way in grimey tech-house. His Phrunky imprint, which he ran with partner Ty Tek, was respected and supported by the likes of John Digweed and Nathan Coles. If you like your tech house dirty and slightly off-kilter, then add this to your crate.

Katermukke, always one of my fave melodic-house imprints, brings another bongo- and guitar-fueled tech-house groover with their latest release from Smash TV, El Matematico. With standard cues and classic techy stylings, “El Matematico” and its reworks from Dirty Doering and Nico Stojan are surefire floor-fillers when your crowd is leaning towards a moody rumbler late on Saturday night. Another quality cut from the kats at Katermukke.

I’ve been following Team Supreme since June of last year and have been really feeling what they’re doing, so I’m happy to see them turn up with some solid cuts on this comp, and I think that a lot of the producers in their pool have some serious talent.

I blame Blawan. The bass-music figurehead has been more or less responsible for a specific type of recent sound: flooded frequencies, trilling R&B samples, and hectic lo-fi techno collisions with any number of other genres. His is the sound of several rules being broken at once, and anonymous up-and-comer Low Jack craftily slings that raw type of blueprint over some jacking old-school and classic deep house for Delsin.
