Tonight, the Denver-based producer/DJ Aaron Holstein (better known as VibeSquaD) will begin his co-headlining expedition across North America with like-minded Australian bass freak Opiuo. But better than that is the fact that as the pair roll out their brands of twisted boom-bap from coast to coast, Beatport will offer up exclusive recordings of live material from each night in our Beatport Mixes store, giving you digital access to the walloping bass and space-age electronics of VibeSquaD’s and Opiuo’s live gigs right after they’re performed. As well, VIP ticket buyers will receive a coupon to download five Mixes from the tour.

Before the tour kicks off in Boulder, Colorado, tonight, Beatport News took the opportunity to have a quick chat with the man behind VibeSquaD to give us a better idea of what to expect from these live shows and recordings.

Have you ever done anything like this before, recording all of your live shows?

Yes, I was in a band from Colorado called Zilla that was an all-improvisational live electronic act, and we recorded every show. Then, each day we would listen to the previous night’s recording and critique the playing in order to improve our approach.

For fans who might purchase multiple sets from this tour, how much does each show differ from one to the next? Are you making each one extra-special for this tour?

The collaborative jam between Opiuo and myself will be unique each night. My own VibeSquaD sets will vary from night to night, but there will certainly be some of the same new material played each night.

What’s the most exciting thing about touring in general?

I enjoy the feeling of being on a mission and improving all aspects of the show each night. It’s great to wake up in a new city each day and do some exploring as well.

Tell us a secret about touring that no artists ever talk about.

There is much more traveling and waiting than rocking out.

Any favorite stops along the way for this trip?

I grew up in Chicago, so it’s always nice to get back there for a show. Also, I’m very psyched for the Boulder show, of course! Honestly, I’m looking forward to all of it.

What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you while on tour?

I’ve experienced lots—cancelled flights are always fun! Zilla had a tour bus that lost all its brakes driving down a 18% grade in California. We almost died!

Do any of the venues you’re playing present any special challenges for recording?

Not really. We are bringing a sound engineer who will be making sure each night comes out just right!
